District heating and cooling are very efficient systems that provide heating and cooling to both commercial and industrial facilities.  Chilled water,  hot water, and steam are circulated through pre-insulated piping systems to efficiently transfer energy from its source to consumers.

Corrosive and hazardous fluids are commonly transferred from point to point using pipelines and piping systems. Double containment piping systems are one of the most reliable methods for protecting the environment from leaks caused by primary carrier pipe failures. A combination of government regulations and increased concern for the environment and for safety has accelerated the use of containment systems.

Chemical plants, refineries, and other industrial facilities commonly utilize pre-insulated piping systems to move materials, hazardous fluids, and processed products from one location to another.

Pipelines and piping systems have been used to transport oil & gas for over 200 years.  Today, developing onshore and offshore oil & gas systems are more challenging than ever before.

Offshore oil & gas systems are being developed with greater water depths, higher pressures and temperatures, and more complex fluid systems. Subsea processing equipment and pipelines often require insulation to maintain fluid temperatures above the point where hydrate or paraffin formation can occur, resulting in restricted or blocked flow and reduced production.

Onshore pipelines are increasingly being constructed in densely populated regions of the world, requiring increased safety precautions and advanced corrosion mitigation techniques.

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is an essential and growing source of energy. Regulations for LNG powered ships, dual-fuel ships, storage vessels, and other LNG vessels require the enclosed space liquid lines and gas lines to be a double wall piping systems to protect against carrier pipe leaks caused by corrosion or mechanical damage.  LNG is stored as a cryogenic liquid, which requires using appropriate materials and safety precautions to contain and handle the fluid in piping systems and storage tanks.

Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI) is a severe form of localized, external corrosion that commonly occurs on insulated steel piping systems. The most common contributors to CUI are moisture (water in all forms is the most significant contributor to corrosion), operating temperature, and chemical exposure. Prevention lies in controlling these contributors to CUI through proper system design and material specification, installation, and maintenance.
